Info: There is no mistaking Detroit for Miami or San Diego. But we need to look past that. The folks in Detroit have been so nice. Not over-the-top nice or fake nice. Just plain nice. It has been the best part of the trip, since you spend most of your time indoors anyway. Each time I walk into my hotel or the media center, friendly volunteers happily say, 'Hello!' At media day Tuesday, I was welcomed to Ford Field over and over. After a long day working, fresh cookies were waiting downstairs at my suburban hotel. Yes, there are hassles here. My hotel feels like it is in Ohio (I am really 40 minutes away in Livonia). There are a billion people here elbowing and pushing and asking ridiculous questions. And the sun hasn't been out since I got here Sunday. But I would gladly trade that to feel welcomed any place, any time. Detroiters know they must go above and beyond to leave a good impression because of the wicked beating the city has already taken for getting the big game. They have done that, and more.
